Senior student leaders supported the celebration of Chinese New Year with a Chinese themed Australian BBQ

The College Leadership team and the Pastoral Team had the pleasure of celebrating Chinese New Year with our International students, their in-country parents and guardians. It was a lovely event held at the College where we celebrated a Chinese festival with an Australian BBQ and pavlova. It was a wonderful demonstration of how the two cultures come together at our College. During the evening our Prefect of International Students, Jack Feng, made a heartfelt speech that was so lovely I thought it appropriate to share some of it with all of our community.

Below is an extract of International Prefect Jack Feng’s speech.

"... I'm delighted to address you all tonight, especially as we come together to celebrate the Chinese New Year. This occasion not only marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle but also highlights the profound bonds of unity, mutual assistance, and love among our international student community. Our international student community here at St Augustine’s College exemplifies the spirit of solidarity and support. Despite being far from home, we have formed tight-knit bonds that serve as pillars of strength for each other. From sharing study tips to celebrating traditional festivals together, we stand united, offering a sense of belonging to one another.

"Furthermore, I'm proud to acknowledge the unwavering support and assistance provided by our school community. From cultural integration programs to language support services, the school goes above and beyond to help us adapt to our new environment. The school community's inclusive atmosphere has made us feel truly welcomed and valued. As we gather tonight to celebrate the Chinese New Year, let us not only revel in the festivities but also reflect on the strength of our bonds and the support we receive from our school community. Wishing you all a joyous Chinese New Year. "
