Care and Engagement

2C. Develop a greater sense of connection, safety, community and care in all the College community.

  • To create a culture of student connectedness between Year and House Groups.
  • Stakeholder engaged:
  • Students

During 2022, the College provided many opportunties for students to create connectedness across Year and House Groups, including:

Mates @ Saints

The Mates @ Saints is a peer-led program that begins with training sessions for Year 10 students who wish to be considered Mates for incoming Year 7 students. The key tenants are: Leading with Love, Truthful communication and Community Building. At the conclusion of this year's training, 70 students indicated they wished to be involved.

Breaking the Man Code

These workshops facilitate honest and authentic conversations with Year 10, 11 and 12 students in order to define masculinity that ‘generates purpose, pride, and health for the men of today and tomorrow’.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

This initiative sees Year 12 students offer support and advice to Year 10 and 11 students in the lead-up to subject selection. It's designed to achieve the following outcomes: Create a student-led forum to discuss subject selection Develop opportunities to foster student voice Foster a student’s ability to make well considered decisions.

Captain's Choice Friday AWE Sessions

March 25 marked the Captain’s Choice session for senior students. The House Captains devised activities for our Friday AWE session to promote House spirit and comradery. Goold House Captain Joshua Cooper worked closely with House Formation Leader Craig Morrison to devise eight activities for the boys to participate in. The focus was to build a sense of community and forge bonds between the Years 10, 11 and 12 Goold House members. This involved a variation of engaging and competitive tasks such as: Tug of war, kick tennis, uno, Jenga and egg toss. It was a great morning.

Bishops Brekkie sessions

House activities were run, such as basketball games, to give students the opportunity to meet and play together. Conducted by Year 12 students for Year 10 and Year 11 House cohesion and community building.

Mates Helping Mates

Designed by students for students, this student-led session forms part of our AWE framework in the senior Houses. Led by a peer, the session explores representations of masculinity and empowers students to ask, "Are you OK?". Boys practice skills to offer assistance and demonstrate help-seeking behaviours.

Meet the Seniors

This involved Year 12 students visiting Year 7 Tutor Groups to run sessions around culture building e.g. "the way we do things around here..." Senior students also led Tutor Groups in activities focused on building connections and developing school culture.

Year Group House basketball competition

Great spirit was on display by all the boys at the Year 7 Bishops Basketball competition co-ordinated by the Student Leaders. Their energy and enthusiasm were remarkable as the battled it out under the hoops.

Senior House Breakfasts

A House Breakfast is very popular with the bacon and egg BBQ in Goold Block being a definite winner with the boys. In Reville House Captain Bryn Melville’s words, “A classic BBQ with our mates was the perfect way to start our Friday and made us appreciate that we can still come together.”

The relationships created allow issues to be addressed peer to peer in a powerful way.
