The SRC’s goals for 2022 were to make a push on sustainability within the school; increase community engagement and develop students’ leadership skills.

Sustainability is increasingly important for the College, and the SRC is constantly working to make the school a cleaner, more environmentally friendly place to learn. In 2022, SRC 'Return and Earn' cages have been a huge success, with funds being raised by the student body from the can collection going directly back into the College. From the support they had for the initial cage they were able to create a second one for the Primary School.

The SRC has also run three fundraising days consisting of barbecues, sponge throws, and competitions with school-wide participation.

Lismore Fundraiser organised by the SRC, led by SRC Prefect Mitch Gilligan

The boys were invited to wear mufti and bring in a $5 donation that would go toward flood-effected areas in Lismore. The fun day included a chance for boys to throw a sponge teachers who good naturedly joined in the antics. The SRC raised over $8000 dollars, ($8341 to be exact).

Vice Captain Rick Andrews wrote: “It was a great afternoon, the highlight for me was witnessing the cheering and chanting as the teachers got soaked in the sponge throwing challenge. This is an amazing effort from the College community and I’m sure that St Joseph’s Primary school will be most appreciative for the raised funds. A massive thank you to the SRC members, Ms D'Arcangeli and Mitch for organising this event.”

These days allow the SRC to learn and grow as a student body, and, continually, have contributed to future projects and opportunities. St Augustine’s College has engaged with the wider community through these fundraisers with the most successful one raising $7000 for Lifeline Australia. Additionally, community engagement has also been improved through the presence of SRC boys at a range of school events from drama productions and debating to Saturday morning rugby.

A further goal of the SRC was to further develop students as leaders within the school body. Students participated in weekly leadership skills sessions and undertook bigger roles in the running of their Year/House meetings and Tutor Group sessions. A highlight of leadership skills the boys developed in 2022 in the running of a College Assembly.

Overall, the SRC have been incredibly active and present in the school community throughout 2022, and will continue doing so in 2023 as students, and as leaders.
