2024 SEA Opportunities Shared with Community

In October, parents were sent details of the 2024 SEA Program Student Opportunities:

St Augustine’s College has a proud history of social justice. The SEA (Service Education and Awareness) Program was established in 2007 and has seen nearly 20 immersions, involving over 300 students, traveling to six countries, involved with hands-on service for others. The Student Cultural Exchange connects us to Catholic and Augustinian Colleges and families overseas and has been running for over 10 years.

After a presentation to students this morning, this letter introduces the 2024 SEA opportunities.
1. Indigenous Immersion to the Central Australia for about 20-24 students.
2. USA Student Cultural Exchange - Malvern Prep for about 5 students.

All programs are aimed at Year 10 and, if required, 11 students (2024). As your son enters his senior years of schooling, he has the emotional and physical maturity to make the most of these opportunities. It is our hope that your son will gain a sense of personal satisfaction by assisting other people, which will enhance his social awareness, communication skills, a sense of duty and responsibility, as well as develop his independence.

Central Australia Immersion

Students will have a chance to travel to the remote Indigenous homelands of Central Australia, making a real connection with Firs Nations people living on their own land who have maintained a deep connection to their culture and history. They will learn from Elders and Traditional Owners and play with young Indigenous children eager for a window to the outside world. The group will stay in safe areas on privately held Aboriginal land, not accessible outside of this setting. They will learn, make, gather, eat, give, grow and connect with Traditional Owners and Indigenous Australia.

USA Student Cultural Exchange - Malvern Prep

Malvern Prep is a wonderful and highly regarded Augustinian School in Pennsylvania, USA. This exchange involves travelling overseas where your son will attend school and be billeted with a family for about 2 weeks. Fully immersing himself in the community and culture, he will gain an appreciation for the global, Catholic and Augustinian family. Interested families will also need to be prepared to host students from overseas and as such will be required to obtain mandatory Working with Children Checks.

American students will be hosted in Australia during the final weeks of Term 2 (15-29 June), and our students will visit the USA in the Term 3 break (28 Sept – 13 October).
