The SRC attended the Manly Council International Women’s Day Breakfast.

The College organised a presentation at assembly on International Women’s Day where Kathryn Bignold, Head of SEA and Joe Walsh from Year 12, impressed on the audience, the global differences in how women are treated, the expectations and restrictions placed on them, and the work undertaken by communities to give everyone a fair and equal chance of succeeding. In a lovely gesture from the students, every female staff member was given a ‘thank you’ note by the boys with a small posey of flowers. Kathryn also explained our meaning of SEA – Service, Education, Awareness and how our students can participate in each area.

The SRC coordinated the writing of cards for female and male members of staff for International Womens Day and International Mens Day.

Newsletter Reflection written by Miss Bignold:

Thank you to all the boys who were involved with the activities for International Women’s Day last Friday 8th March.

Before school we had a small group of senior students hand out flowers and a card to women on the way to work down near the B-line at Warringah Mall. Thanks to the boys who spent Thursday afternoon tying the cards to the little posies of flowers, and to the boys who represented the College so well handing them out and thank you to Riley Osborn (Year 12 – MUR6) for using his amazing CANVA skills to design the cards.

Joe Walsh (Year 12- MUR6) spoke to the boys at Assembly about what he has learned about some of the progress that women’s rights have made over the years. Joe spoke of the struggles, particularly in the workforce, education, sports, and entertainment. He also highlighted the work of the women at here at Saints, and how as a community, our strength is dependent upon both men and women and that International Women’s Day is a reminder to take the time to say thank you to all the female teachers, admin and support staff for their efforts and care of all of the boys here at Saints. Thank you, Joe - I know you worked very hard on this assignment, and you pushed yourself out of your comfort zone to speak to the entire school. Well done!

The women on staff were also celebrated by all the boys in Assembly and each female staff member received a note and a little posy of flowers. Thank you to Will Rogers (Year 12 – REV1) for his beautiful words, and to all the boys who personalised the letters for one of their teachers.
