Community
4C. Strengthen student voice within the College.
- To engage students more proactively in College decision making and planning processes.
- Stakeholder engaged:
- Leadership Team
In 2022, a number of initatives were implemented to involve student leaders in College decision making and planning:
Establish SRC position in Leadership Team
A paid SRC Coordinator position was established, with payment in line with cocurricular. The role was established to allow the SRC to go beyond charity and College, and encompass leadership development. This includes helping the boys prepare for Student Leadership with development opportunities such as how to write and present speeches, how to Chair a meeting and create an agenda etc.
Student Leaders Training and Development Program
To further develop students, the Head of HR ran a Predictive Index behavioural assessment with incoming 2023 student leaders. The program involved student self-assessment, one-on-one coaching debrief with Head of HR, and a team session centred on building an understanding of everyone’s natural behaviours and how to best leverage the strengths within the team.
Students engaged in College Strategic Planning
The Student Leadership team was consulted and able to have their say on the direction of the student section of the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan. They were then able to pick their intention for the year. They were given responsibility for the fulfillment and write up of their intent, an equal footing as all other stakeholder groups.
Students involved in staff Pastoral Leaders process
Student Leaders were on the interviewing panel for staff Pastoral Leader interviews. They were required to formulate and ask their own question as representatives of the student body. The feedback from the interview was sought and played a role in the decision-making and selection of successful candidates. Students were also on the panel for interviewing the next group of student leaders.
