Building Capacity

5A. Provide professional and personal opportunities for students, staff and parents to experience growth that is fulfilling, affirming and meaningful.

  • To increase opportunities for staff to contribute to school-wide initiatives and innovations.
  • Stakeholder engaged:
  • Staff

Max Burgess, Penelope Willis, Stephanie Weller, Elizabeth Armenio, and Sarah Owen worked collaboratively to design and deliver a full staff day that aligned directly with the College’s target of increasing opportunities for staff to contribute to school-wide initiatives and innovations.

The day comprised four distinct elements, each intentionally structured to support both professional growth and community connection. The opening included a staff prayer session, providing a reflective and values-centred foundation for the day and fostering a shared sense of purpose within the College community.

The professional learning component then unfolded across three facilitated sessions by the group. The first session offered a timely literacy update, introducing a new whole-school initiative aimed at building and embedding literacy skills across all disciplines. The second session presented data feedback drawn from a whole-staff survey, providing transparency and an evidence base for ongoing school development.

The third and final session introduced staff to the concept of a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG). Staff were divided into smaller groups to brainstorm ideas in a structured yet open forum, creating a platform for colleagues to share aspirations for the College, raise perspectives on student behaviour, and explore future opportunities relating to the holistic growth of both students and the school community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the College’s ongoing development in this way. The day provided a valuable platform for staff voices to be heard, grounded in both reflection and collaboration, and we hope the ideas and conversations generated will play a meaningful part in shaping the continued growth and direction of our school community.
