Learning and Teaching

3A. Prioritise student engagement, connection, creativity and resilience through a differentiated, innovative and relevant whole school approach to learning and teaching.

  • To activate strategies that amplify academic learning dispositions — low variance, quality teaching, differentiation, curiosity.
  • Stakeholder engaged:
  • Leadership Team

The College's Professional Learning Group (PLG) structure — built around teacher goals, lesson observations and coaching conversations — has been embedded across the staff. A keynote on Educational Coaching from a Head Teacher Coach at Barker College set the tone for the year, and PLG workshops have run successfully in areas such as Visible Thinking and Explicit Instruction. A dedicated Differentiation session was delivered to all teachers by the Learning Enhancement team. Teachers are also engaging deeply with HSC marking, lifting calibration and confidence with external assessment.

The Study Skills program continued for Years 7, 8, 11 and 12 — including a parent and student session — with strategies for retrieval practice and routines for assessment preparation. Term 4 saw enhanced after-school study sessions in the College Auditorium, with attendance regularly exceeding 100 students. Curriculum program updates have commenced in Mathematics, English and Science, and the ADEPT team is continuing to support faculties to align low-variance teaching resources within Teams classrooms and pilot AI agents to reduce cognitive load and improve student feedback.
